Inaugural (Virtual) Fishing Tournament

November 20 - December 6, 2020

The Lamar University Athletics Inaugural (Virtual) Fishing Tournamentis in it’s inaugural year and is a great way for LU fans & alumni to support the Cardinals while doing what they love – spending time on the water & fishing! Not only are LU fans & alumni invited to participate, but anglers across the US are encouraged to join us! Anglers from down here in Southeast Texas, up to Maine, over to California, and everywhere in between has the opportunity to participate in this first of its kind event – a nationwide virtual fishing tournament hosted by a NCAA Division I athletic department.

Anglers can choose to compete in either the Largemouth or Redfish competition, or do both! The tournament is open to anglers of all ages – there will be an adult and a youth division in both competitions. Individuals that are currently in 9th grade and older will be in the adult divisions, while individuals currently in 8th grade and younger will be in the youth divisions.

Registration is only $45 per person!

We will be awarding 16 places:

  1. Redfish largest stringer (best 5 fish)
    1. Adult: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
    2. Youth: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
  2. Redfish largest fish
    1. Adult: 1st
    2. Youth: 1st
  3. Largemouth largest stringer (best 5 fish)
    1. Adult: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
    2. Youth: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
  4. Largemouth largest fish
    1. Adult: 1st
    2. Youth: 1st

Scoring:

  • Scoring is based on length, not weight.
  • Largest stringer will be the combined length of your best 5 fish.

All registered participants will receive:

  • A limited edition tournament t-shirt
  • A ticket to a LU Athletics event (basketball or football game)
  • Personalized certificate of participation that includes total length of your best five fish and place you finish
  • Customized selfie
    • Anglers can submit a fish selfie and we’ll send back a LU branded customized selfie
  • Entry to win prize drawings

Virtual Fishing Tournament Rules & Regulations

  1. Tournament starts Friday, November 20th at 6pm central and ends on Sunday, December 6th at 3pm central
  2. All submissions must be uploaded by 3pm on December 6th
  3. Registration is $45 per competitor. Registration is open through the end of the tournament.
  4. This is an individual tournament – no pooling allowed
  5. This tournament is open to all fishing – kayak fishing, boat fishing, pier fishing, wade fishing, bank fishing, etc!
  6. All fish must be caught on rod and reel
  7. All bait allowed – artificial, dead, live, cut, etc
  8. Fishing boundaries – anywhere within the US and along the US coast
  9. Guides are allowed to fish/guide
  10. The tournament is open to everyone
  11. There will be a Largemouth and a Redfish competition with an adult (9th grade and older) and a youth (8th grade and under) division in each

  15. Log all of your catches - the iAngler app will automatically cull and score your 5 largest fish
  16. We recommend catching and releasing. Once you take a photo and upload it to the iAngler app, you no longer need to keep the fish.
  17. have measuring device and personal unique identifier in photo
  18. The Hawg Trough, Ketchboard, or similar measuring devices must be used
    1. Photo must be taken straight on – angled photo’s will be rejected
    2. Lips must be touching end of measuring stick
    3. Photo must include whole fish – from tip to tail
    4. Fish must be left side up
    5. Measurement markings should be clearly visible
  19. All competitors must have a current fishing license for the state in which they are fishing
  20. All competitors must follow all state fishing and wildlife regulations in their respective state

RELEASE, HOLD HARMLESS AND AGREEMENT NOT TO SUE

LAMAR UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS AND LAMAR UNIVERSITY

For good valuable consideration, including without limitation the acceptance of the undersigned's entry or participation in the "Lamar University Athletics Inaugural (Virtual) Fishing Tournament" (the "Event") and being permitted to participate in certain related activities, the undersigned, for himself and his personal representatives, heirs, guest, invitees, employees and crew members hereby (1) RELEASES, WAIVES, DISCHARGES, AND COVENANTS NOT TO SUE the following:

LAMAR UNIVERSITY

and their chapters, subsidiaries, related entities, respective members, volunteers, heirs, successors, assigns, officers, directors, employees, agents, contractors and subcontractors (collectively, the "Releasees") from all liability to the undersigned, his personal representatives, assigns, heirs and next of kin, and for all loss or damage, and all claims or damages therefore, on account of bodily injury, personal injury, death or property damage of or to the undersigned, his guests, invitee, employees or crew, during the Event or arising out of or in any way in connection with the Event and related activities or while the undersigned is competing, or participating, regardless of whether caused in whole or in part by the negligence of Releasees; (2) AGREES

TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS Releasees and each of them from and against all claims, actions, causes of action, damages, liabilities, losses and judgments (collectively, the "Claims") of or by all guests, invitee, employees and crew of the undersigned for bodily injury, personal injury, death or property damage which they may suffer or incur during the Event or arising out of or in any way in connection with the Event or related activities, regardless of whether caused in whole or in part by the negligence of Releasees; and (3) ASSUMES FULL RESPONSIBILITY for and risk of bodily injury, personal injury, death or property damage of or to himself, his guests, invitees, employees or crew and his boat and equipment due to negligence of Releasees or otherwise during the Event or while participating in the Event or related activities or while in or on the Event premises and the common properties and recreational areas and adjacent docks, piers and boat slips.

YOU PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT AT YOU OWN RISK. LAMAR UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS AND LAMAR UNIVERSITY WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for any injuries or property damage resulting, caused by or growing out of the use of the Marina, docks or harbor facilities, including for any negligent conditions. By participating in the event, you RELEASE AND DISCHARGE LAMAR UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS AND LAMAR UNIVERSITY from any and all liability for loss, injury (including death), or damages to person or property sustained while participating, including but not limited to damages or injuries caused by fire, theft, vandalism, wind storm, high or low waters, hail, rain, ice, collision or accident, or any other Act of God, whether on boat, in water, on dock, on land or otherwise.

YOU UNDERSTAND THAT LAMAR UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS AND LAMAR UNIVERSITY shall not be responsible for any damages to any boat resulting from Acts of God (i.e., causes of nature), collisions or accidents, or has been damaged or sunk or any debris from boat owner’s boat.

The undersigned agrees to pay all of the Releasees' costs of defending all Claims and further agrees that this Release, Indemnification and Agreement Not to Sue is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of the State of Texas and that, if any portion of this agreement is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect.

Photo Release

The undersigned party agrees to allow Lamar University Athletics and Lamar University to use any photographs or video taken by Lamar University Athletics and Lamar University volunteers or staff to be used on Lamar University Athletics and Lamar University websites, Social Media pages and/or for promotional materials and distribution to the general media as it pertains to the Event.
