We are all Connected
YEA’s Virtual Fishing Tournaments

November 27 - 29, 2020

The "We are all Connected Virtual Fishing Tournament Series" is set up to encourage the participants from our Fishing for Fun 4-Day Camp to take the knowledge and skills learned in the classes and put them to use, to recruit new participants, act as an outreach event educating and encouraging ethical angles while we collect data on the number of species, size of fish and hours participants spend outdoors fishing.

YEA has been educating and restoring habitat since 2005, this series evolved out of the programs already in existence and the force to adapt since COVID quarantine so we have adapted our programs and added this tournament series.

We are all connected so we are all affected is an underling theme in YEA offerings. All life matters so to reduce the affect we will have on the fish we are catching the tournament will be set up as a C.P.R. virtual series.

  • C - Catch
  • P - Photo
  • R – Release

Location: Any waters that you may legally Fish, from land, dock, boat, or wading.

Time: From 3:30 pm – 6 pm Friday, 7 am – 3 pm Saturday and 7 am – 3 pm Sunday

Target Species

  • Can it be any fish caught? We want to see the diversity of species being caught.

Scoring Guidelines

  • 1 point for each fish caught

Participants will be sent a specific tournament marker that will need to be placed in the photograph of the fish entered in to the Tournament Management System (TSM). There is a TSM AP that can be downloaded on to smart phones or tablets to record the photos of the fish. Length of the fish, the number of different species and the length of time-spent fishing will all be added up to score anglers.

YEA teaches and practices Ethical Angling; CPR tournaments have a higher fish survival rate than traditional weigh in type events. All life matters, and we want our alliance of ethical anglers to be mindful of the lives they are handling.

Please remember to wet hands or wear gloves while holding your catch.

Hold your breath as you handle the fish, to remind yourself that the fish cannot breath while out of the water.

Please hold the fish horizontally, supporting its belly and tail to prevent internal injuries.

Photos will be uploaded to the TMS AP and scored according to:

  • Number of fish Caught
  • Number of different species caught
  • Number of hours spent fishing

All proceeds from the tournament entry will benefit the educational, outreach and restoration projects of Youth Environmental Alliance, a 501-C3.

The Tournament Committee may cancel any tournament day if, in its best judgment, unsafe conditions exist at sea for the average registered boat. Notice of cancellation for the day will go out by text and email. However, the decision of the Tournament to allow fishing for the day shall not be interpreted as any assurance that the conditions are safe for any registered boat or angler. Registered participants must at all times make their own judgments regarding personal safety based on their boat, experience, seamanship skills, and any other relevant factors.

All participants must read and sign the YEA Liability Waiver.

Tournament Rules and Regulations

Overall:

CPR stands for Catch, Photo, and Release. All Youth Environmental Alliance, YEA Fishing programs and tournament series practice, CPR protocols where, length rather than weight is the basis for scoring of each angler’s catch.

Basically, one catches a fish, lays it on an approved measuring board, and takes a photo using a digital camera or smart phone. The photo is then uploaded using either a web browser or app to a web-based Tournament Management System (“TMS”). The fish is placed back in the water as soon as possible, unharmed, after having been photographed. Because handling and time out of water are minimal, the mortality rate for CPR tournaments is a tiny fraction of that of conventional weight-based tournaments where fish are transported in holding tanks and bags.

The TMS displays each event’s photos on a website leader board. As successive fish are caught and photos uploaded, photos of shorter fish are replaced (“culled”), so only the highest-scoring fish remain at the end. The number of fish per competition can vary from one to five or more per day, depending on the event rules.

At the end of competition time, the cumulative length of bass beside each competitor’s name on the leader board determines his ranking.

  • 1 point for every hour fishing (photo with time stamp once an hour
  • 1 point for each fish caught
  • 2 points for each species caught
  • Number of inches of Fish Caught gets added to participants total
  • End of the tournament
  • 3 points for each day you fish in between tournaments

Prizes:

In case of the unexpected, Tournament Committee decision is final. Awards will be made depending on the number of participants. While all anglers may not receive a prize, a good amount will, depending on participation. YEA will send out awards electronically or by mail to ensure COVID compliance and safety.
